This month, I decided to dive into my "Beauty In God" journal, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. The very first devotion is subtitled "Finding Beauty in the Midst of Tribulation," and it felt like it was speaking directly to my heart. Funny enough, my original plan was to use this particular journal in 2025, but I felt an undeniable nudge in my spirit to start now. And wow, am I glad I did!
Life has been throwing quite a few challenges my way lately. In the midst of these trials, this journal became a beacon of light, helping me search out the lessons and blessings hidden within my struggles. One of the most significant insights was about humility. Here’s what this journey has taught me so far. Humility is not about thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less. READ THAT AGAIN! Philippians 2:3-4, states:
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”
This verse showed me that I needed to put away my selfish desires. As pride built up, I felt God warning me against feeding it. Can I pause to tell you how patient and loving He was towards me during this time? But boy was I scared to keep going against His command! The spirits of pride and rebellion are strong. BUT NOT STRONGER THAN THE HOLY SPIRIT IN ME! I was reminded that I'm called to live in service to others, reflecting the love and humility that Jesus had. Proverbs 22:4 states:
“Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life.”
Eventually, I broke free after a long late-night walk with Abba. I surrendered everything I was feeling to Him. I exchanged my pride and rebellion for humility and obedience. Embracing humility transforms our lives and relationships, allowing us to live in harmony with God’s will. It’s a quiet strength that empowers us to live with integrity. Micah 6:8 states:
“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
Let’s journey together in humility, allowing it to shape our hearts and lives in profound and beautiful ways. Here are a few ways to cultivate humility in daily life:
Listening to Others: James 1:19 advises us to be “quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” By genuinely listening, we show respect and value to others' perspectives.
Admitting Mistakes: Proverbs 28:13 teaches, “Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.” Admitting our faults requires humility and paves the way for personal growth and reconciliation.
Valuing Others: Romans 12:10 urges us to “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” By prioritizing others’ needs, we embody Christ’s love and humility. How do you practice humility in your daily life? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
